Red Kingdom Media Daily Update - 7/3/2024
Here are the things to know in the Chiefs Kingdom for Wednesday, July 3, 2024.
The New England Patriots retain their LB!
The Patriots and LB Jahlani Tavai have agreed to a 3-year extension worth $15M, with a potential to reach $21M in incentives. Tavai is a former second-round pick of the Lions and had a career year last season with 110 total tackles and 16 starts. Tavai was a pivotal part of the Patriots defense and with Jerrod Mayo as the new head coach, he wants a headhunter in that LB group.
NFL suspends Free-Agent Safety
The NFL suspended free-agent safety Tashaun Gipson for six games violating the performance enhancement substance policy. Gipson spent the last two seasons with the San Francisco 49ers. Last season Gipson totaled 60 tackles, 1 sack, and 1 interception during their run through the NFC heading to the Super Bowl. Gipson is currently looking for a new home and hopes whoever is willing to bring him in has the patience to wait for his suspension to end.
Josh Jacobs has big aspirations with the Packers!
For Josh Jacobs this offseason, everything seemed to point to the Packers. As Jacobs surveyed the NFL and considered his options Green Bay started to look as the most logical option. Since signing his four-year deal, Jacobs has firmed up his belief that he made the right decision. Here is what the star RB had to say about his time in Green Bay so far.
I honestly think the sky is the limit in this offense. Having a special guy in Jordan Love, you know, and having a good offensive line and some good receivers out there makes it a lot easier for me, but just to be able to see the game plan and things that they want me to do this year, the things that they're allowing me to do, I just think it's going to be a special year.
Packers head coach Matt Lafleur has traditionally favored a multi-back system but views Jacobs as a high-volume RB. Jacobs is the second oldest skill position player on the team now and those second and third-year players will be leaning on him to be a great leader.
Ladd McConkey looks like a 5-year Vet
The Los Angeles Chargers hope that second-round pick Ladd McConkey will hit the ground running this upcoming season. After losing Mike Williams to free agency and trading away Keenan Allen to the Bears, McConkey will have the advantage to become Herbert’s No. 1 target in 2024. Justin Herbert has mentioned that the rookie WR has picked up the offense easily and stated he has looked like a 4-year or 5-year vet. Entering the NFL with excellent route running and YAC ability, McConkey has a chance to be the Chargers leading receiver out the gate.
